First Responder Support

Specialized, confidential support for the people who show up for everyone else — because you deserve a space to be human, too.

Therapy built for first responders

First responders — police officers, paramedics, firefighters, nurses, dispatchers, correctional officers, and other frontline workers — are exposed to traumatic events, chronic stress, and moral injury at a rate that far exceeds the general population. Over time, this exposure takes a toll: on sleep, on relationships, on the ability to feel safe or present, and on the sense of meaning that drew many to the work in the first place.

Seeking support is not a sign of weakness. It is a sign of self-awareness and courage — and it is one of the most important things you can do for yourself, your family, and the people you serve. At Healing Within, we understand the culture of first responder work: the pressure to push through, the stigma around mental health, and the difficulty of finding a therapist who truly gets it.

Our Clinical Director, Victoria Armas Cavaliere, has specialized training and experience working with first responders and trauma. Our team is deeply committed to providing a confidential, non-judgmental space where you can finally set down the weight you carry — and begin to heal.

How it works at Healing Within

01

Free 15-minute consultation

We begin with a free, confidential phone consultation so you can connect with your therapist and ask any questions before committing to a session. There is no pressure — it is simply a chance to see if the fit feels right.

02

Building trust and safety

Your therapist will take time to understand your role, your experiences, and what has brought you to therapy — without judgment. We know that trust takes time, especially in a culture where vulnerability is not always safe, and we will never rush this process.

03

Evidence-based trauma processing

Once a foundation of safety is established, your therapist will work with you using evidence-based approaches — including Cognitive Processing Therapy and somatic therapy — to process traumatic memories, reduce symptoms, and restore a sense of regulation and wellbeing.

04

Sustainable recovery

Healing from occupational trauma and chronic stress is an ongoing process. Your therapist will support you in building the skills, insight, and resilience needed to sustain your wellbeing — both on and off the job.

Our specialized approaches

Our therapists use evidence-based approaches specifically suited to the trauma and stress that first responders experience. Treatment is always tailored to your unique history, role, and goals.

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

A structured, evidence-based approach that helps you examine and shift the unhelpful beliefs that developed as a result of trauma — particularly effective for PTSD and occupational stress injury.

Somatic Therapy

Addresses the way trauma and chronic stress are held in the body, supporting healing through body-based awareness and nervous system regulation.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Helps identify and shift the thought patterns and beliefs that develop in response to occupational trauma, moral injury, and chronic stress.

Trauma-Informed Care

An overarching framework that prioritizes safety, confidentiality, and collaboration — and that recognizes the unique culture and pressures of first responder work.
