Kids & Adolescent Therapy

A safe, age-appropriate space where young people can express themselves, make sense of what they're going through, and build the skills to navigate life with greater confidence.

What is therapy for kids and teens?

Therapy for children and adolescents is a specialized form of psychotherapy designed to meet young people where they are — developmentally, emotionally, and socially. It offers a confidential, supportive space where kids and teens can talk openly about what's going on in their lives, without fear of judgment or consequence.

Young people face a unique set of pressures — academic stress, social dynamics, family changes, identity questions, and the weight of growing up in a complex world. When these pressures become overwhelming, therapy can provide the tools, perspective, and support needed to navigate them more effectively.

At Healing Within, our therapists who work with young people are warm, patient, and skilled at building trust with children and teens. We adapt our approach to each young person's age, personality, and needs — and we always keep parents appropriately informed while protecting the confidentiality that makes therapy effective.

How it works at Healing Within

01

Free 15-minute consultation

We begin with a free phone consultation — typically with a parent or guardian — to understand your child's situation, answer questions, and find the right therapist fit before committing to a session.

02

Getting to know your child

The first session focuses on building rapport and trust. Your therapist will take time to understand your child's world — their strengths, their challenges, and what they're hoping to feel differently about.

03

Ongoing sessions

Sessions are typically 50 minutes and held weekly or bi-weekly. Your therapist will use age-appropriate approaches to help your child or teen develop coping skills, process difficult emotions, and build resilience.

04

Family involvement

Parents and caregivers play an important role in a young person's healing. Your therapist will keep you informed of progress and may suggest periodic family check-ins or parent coaching sessions to support the work.

Our therapeutic approaches

Our therapists use a range of evidence-based, developmentally appropriate approaches tailored to each young person's age and needs.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Helps children and teens identify and shift unhelpful thought patterns that contribute to anxiety, low mood, and behavioural challenges.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Builds practical skills in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness — especially helpful for teens.

Mindfulness-Based Approaches

Teaches young people to slow down, tune in to their experience, and respond to challenges with greater calm and awareness.

Play and Expressive Therapy

For younger children, play and creative expression can be powerful tools for processing emotions and experiences that are difficult to put into words.
