Trauma Therapy

A carefully paced, compassionate space to process what has happened to you — and begin to feel safe in your own body and life again.

What is trauma therapy?

Trauma therapy is a specialized form of psychotherapy designed to help people process and heal from distressing or overwhelming experiences. Trauma can take many forms — a single acute event, repeated experiences over time, or the cumulative weight of chronic stress. Whatever the source, trauma leaves an imprint on the nervous system that can affect how we think, feel, and move through the world long after the event itself has passed.

Healing from trauma is not about forgetting what happened or simply moving on. It is about processing the experience in a way that reduces its grip on your present life — so that memories, triggers, and physical sensations no longer feel as overwhelming or intrusive as they once did.

At Healing Within, our trauma-informed therapists understand that healing is not linear and that safety comes first. We work at your pace, using evidence-based approaches that are grounded in both the latest trauma research and a deep respect for your individual experience and resilience.

How it works at Healing Within

01

Free 15-minute consultation

We begin with a free phone consultation so you can connect with your therapist, ask questions, and get a sense of their approach before committing to a session. There is no pressure — it is simply a chance to see if the fit feels right.

02

Building safety first

Before processing any traumatic material, your therapist will work with you to build a foundation of safety, stability, and coping skills. This phase is essential — healing cannot happen without it, and we never rush it.

03

Processing at your pace

Once you feel ready, your therapist will guide you through evidence-based approaches to process traumatic memories and reduce their emotional charge. This work is always collaborative and always at a pace that feels manageable for you.

04

Integration and moving forward

The final phase of trauma therapy focuses on integrating what you have learned and experienced — reconnecting with your life, your relationships, and your sense of self in a way that feels grounded and sustainable.

Our trauma-informed approaches

Our therapists draw from a range of evidence-based modalities specifically suited to trauma work. The approach is always tailored to you — your history, your nervous system, and what feels most helpful.

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

A structured, evidence-based approach that helps you examine and shift the unhelpful beliefs that developed as a result of trauma — reducing symptoms of PTSD and restoring a sense of safety and self-worth.

Somatic Therapy

Attends to the body's role in holding trauma, supporting healing through body-based awareness, breath, and movement.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Helps identify and shift the unhelpful thought patterns and beliefs that often develop in the aftermath of trauma.

Trauma-Informed Care

An overarching framework that prioritizes safety, trust, and collaboration in every aspect of the therapeutic relationship.
